Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most popular form of massage practiced in the United States. Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purposes of establishing and maintaining good health and promoting wellness. Techniques, procedures, and client positions may be modified during treatment depending on the client’s health status and level of comfort. In most cases, an oil or lotion based lubricant is used during a Swedish massage. Clients use massage therapy to alleviate stress, reduce functional limitations, decrease painful conditions, and enhance health and well-being. During a Swedish massage, the therapist is able to modify lighter, moderate, or deeper pressure based on the client’s preference.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle tissue and fascia. It is used to break up scar tissue and adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain and inflammation, and limit range of motion. While some strokes may feel the same as Swedish massage therapy, deep tissue massage isn’t the same as having a regular massage with deep pressure.

Therapeutic Medical Massage

Medical massage is restricted to specific parts of the body in order to treat specific conditions. Some conditions require anywhere from 5-15 sessions, depending on severity, usually treating several times per week. Common conditions include, but are not limited to: frozen shoulder, golfer’s and tennis elbow, TMJ disorder, thoracic outlet syndrome, piriformis syndrome, and sciatic nerve pain. In most cases, no lubricant will be used during a medical massage treatment.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage, also known as pregnancy massage, promotes relaxation, soothes nerves, and relieves strained back and leg muscles in expectant mothers during their second and third trimesters. Massage will be performed with the mother lying on her side to keep pressure off of the vena cava, the large vein that carries deoxygenated blood to the heart. Prenatal massages are meant to be soothing and relaxing, and extra pillows are used for comfort and support. Deep tissue work, and certain acupressure points are avoided.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty add-on service during other massage therapy treatments. The therapist uses smooth, warmed basalt stones as an extension of their own hand, or by placing them on the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles helping the therapist access deeper layers of muscle tissue.

$10- May be added to any massage therapy treatment (excluding chair massage) at the client’s request.
